Calling all dog lovers, we need your help!
The WV Chapter of the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League (MAGDRL) has two immediate needs:
Dog Evaluators in Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties:
Do you love your dogs super sized? Giant paws on long prancing legs, bright beautiful eyes, and wet sloppy kisses? If you live in or near Pocahontas or Greenbrier counties, the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League (MAGDRL) needs your help. Please consider using your compassion and love of all things furry to help us turn around the lives of Great Danes in need by volunteering as a dog evaluator.
When someone reaches out to MAGDRL about a dog in need, the first and most critical step is an evaluator performing an unbiased, honest personality and behavior assessment. As a volunteer evaluator, your detailed assessment of a dog’s unique characteristics is the key to matching him or her to the right foster home, where they’ll receive all the things they need to begin their new lives in their forever homes.
Volunteering is based on your availability, your schedule. There is no pressure to commit to more than you can handle. The only experience you need is being comfortable around large breed dogs; we can train you on everything else you need to know. Since you will be performing evaluations on behalf of MAGDRL, we do require you to sign up as a volunteer. These evaluations generally take 60 to 90 minutes, and are done either at a shelter or at an owner’s home. Once done, simply email the completed form with your findings to the address provided.
MAGDRL is made up of volunteers, people just like you. Even though positions are unpaid, each evaluation you complete enriches you, provides purpose, and truly feeds your soul because your commitment just changed the rest of that dogs life.

Foster homes in Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties:
Sadly, a lack of available foster homes creates a situation where Great Danes must stay in less-than-ideal conditions, sometimes for months. Some emergency situations even require temporary kenneling. This environment adds stress to a difficult time for the dog, and no matter how much effort volunteers provde, dog in kennels simply can’t receive enough attention, training, and socialization.
Fostering a dog is easier than you think and it turns around the life of a dog in need. The foster rules are simple to follow, there is always a coordinator available whoever you need support, and you’re only placed with a dog that fits with your family and comfort level.
